The Government have progressively increased the budget for research into organic farming from £1.1 million in 1997–98 to the present figure of £2.1 million. In addition, as part of the action plan for farming, £2.3 million has been allocated to establish the European centre for organic fruit and nursery stock at Horticulture Research International, in Kent.
