I wish to present a petition, signed by more than 4,000 residents of and visitors to Greenwich who are very concerned about the proposed privatisation of the gardening and horticultural work of Greenwich park. I share their concern.

Wherefore your Petitioners pray that your Honourable House urges the Secretary of State not to proceed with the contracting out of the services supporting the Royal Park.

And your Petitioners, as in duty hound, will ever pray. etc.

To lie upon the Table.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
