I am satisfied, as a result of a discussion which I had last year with the late Dr. Much, then Director-General of the Legal Service of the European Commission, that the Commission is fully aware of the separate nature of the Scottish legal system and is anxious to take Scots law into account in formulating proposals for EEC legislation. I have always sought to assist the Commission in this respect—for example, by ensuring that, where necessary, advice on the law of Scotland is available to Commission working groups.
