Oral Answers to Questions — Environment – in the House of Commons at 12:00 am on 4th November 1970.
asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he will announce his decision on Birmingham's applications for development on the city boundary.
My right hon. Friend is studying this very carefully. He hopes to be able to announce his decision this month.
Is my hon. Friend aware how grateful many people will be that we are at least getting a decision? Is he aware that there is great anxiety in the minds of many people in the West Midlands about their future?
Yes, indeed. I am sorry that this has been such a long inquiry. The report was received late in June. The issues are difficult and challenging, and I must be sure that the decision in so important a matter is right. But I am in no way complacent about the time taken to announce this decision.
