asked the Minister of Transport whether he will give an assurance that the M6-M1 link will be completed not later than the end of 1971.

I am most grateful to my hon. Friend for that reply. For so long when the party opposite was in power we had so much indecision. This will certainly cause a great deal of pleasure to many people.

Is the Minister aware that the date was made public a long time ago? In opening the first part of the link I indicated when it would be concluded. I am glad to see that the Government will maintain the date we set.

I have not the slightest doubt that in 1990 the Minister will be claiming credit for all the roads we built in the meanwhile.
