Thirty-four betterment levy cases in which some degree of hardship was claimed have been brought to my notice since 15th April, 1969.

Would the hon. Gentleman like to be aware that I have a whole host of other cases which have not been brought to his attention, including many in my constituency?

I am not aware of that, but in any case that is not the question the hon. Gentleman asked. There are a further 157 cases where the Land Commission has taken action, and in November it was considering a further 643 cases.

While not subscribing to the attitude of mind displayed by the hon. Member for Poole (Mr. Murton) may I ask my hon. Friend to take into account that it is desirable as far as possible to allow people of fairly modest means to spread their payments over a reasonably long period? This is generally regarded as acceptable to the Land Commission but I should like reassurance.

Absolutely. That is the policy of both the Government and the Land Commission.
