Arising from these talks, will my right hon. Friend bear in mind the urgent need to review our defence commitments in the light of the needs of the 1960s and not the 1940s, and the urgent need to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons?

Will the right hon. Gentleman make representations to the Prime Minister to make a statement as early as possible in the week in which the proposed debate will take place?

I understand that discussions are going on about this between the usual channels, and of course I will make representations.
