asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs when he expects that a decision will be given on the Oxted and Limpsfield town map now before him for his approval; and whether he is aware that the delay in giving approval is holding up progress with the scheme for by-passing Old Oxted.

My right hon. Friend's decision on this town map is not likely to be given until early next year.

He is, however, prepared to deal with the by-pass proposal separately and has told the Surrey County Council so. If it agrees he hopes to be able to issue a decision on this shortly.
