asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects the series of schemes for the reconstruction of the road from Ullapool to Kylesku Ferry to be completed.
Mr Michael Noble
, Argyll
The reconstruction of the 33 miles from Ullapool to Kylesku Ferry is being carried out by Ross and Cromarty and Sutherland County Councils with 100 per cent. grant under the Crofter Counties Programme. The work will be complete in mid-1965.
Sir John Macleod
, Ross and Cromarty
Can my right hon. Friend say how much this will cost, and by whom the cost will be met?
Mr Michael Noble
, Argyll
The likely cost is about £1·6 million. As I have said, it is met under the Crofter Counties Programme, so no part of the cost will fall on the local authorities concerned.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
