Mr. Gresham Cooke:

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in order to deal with the problem of hooligans on the banks of the Thames, he will take steps to set up a joint river police force operating from Teddington Lock up to Lechlade, Gloucestershire, with power to apprehend offenders com- mitting acts of vandalism from the banks of the river.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
