I assume the hon. Member is referring to actions for possession of houses to which both the Rent Act, 1957, and the Landlord and Tenant (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1958, apply. Between 1st June and 25th November, 1960, eleven applications for possession of such houses have been heard in the Willesden County Court. In each case an application by the tenant for a suspension of the order for possession was granted.
What kind of information is sent out at the instigation of the right hon. and learned Gentleman, or his colleagues, to local councils so that they may let people know what opportunities are open to them to contest evictions? Is he aware that many people are not aware of their rights and consequently leave their houses without taking the matter to court?
