Does the hon. Gentleman still think it necessary to have so many Army barracks occupying valuable sites in the West End? Is it not possible to dispense with that horrible eyesore in Knightsbridge without detriment to military needs?

No, Sir. Barracks are provided for troops on ceremonial and other duties in Central London, which we regard as an extremely important function which is accepted by the public.
