asked the Minister of Supply whether he will make a statement concerning the future use of the Royal Ordnance Factory, Llanishen, Cardiff; and, in particular, what representations he has received from the Cardiff City Council.

The part of the factory which is not being retained in operation as a Royal Ordnance Factory has been advertised and my right hon. Friend has received a number of inquiries. The Cardiff City Council has represented that the factory should be disposed of to one major industrial concern, and not piecemeal.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary give an assurance that this excellent factory space will not be disposed of without consultation with the local authority, which wants a substantial industrial concern that can absorb the skilled labour now unemployed in the city?

I do not know whether I can go as far as the hon. Gentleman asks me to do, but I can say that I am very much in agreement with the terms of a letter which the Cardiff City Council sent to my right hon. Friend. I shall use every effort to dispose of this factory with a view to achieving exactly what the hon Gentleman appears to have in mind.
