My Department have told the London County Council of my approval of the council's proposals for the duplication of the Blackwall Tunnel and the Government are making a grant of nearly £5½ million, that is 75 per cent. of the total cost, which is estimated at approximately £7½ million. The council expects that work will begin in the autumn and that it will take about five years to complete.

This is a very important improvement, and I am glad that the Government have made it possible for the L.C.C. to get on with it.
