Oral Answers to Questions — Royal Air Force – in the House of Commons at 12:00 am on 17 December 1958.
asked the Secretary of State for Air if he is now able to make a statement with regard to the future of the Education Branch of the Royal Air Force, with particular regard to the promotion prospects of squadron leaders.
Mr. Ward:
I cannot at present add to the answer given to my hon. Friend by my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State on 5th November.
Is my right hon. Friend aware that that reply will give very great disappointment to the many officers in this branch who have been waiting a long time to know whether they have any prospects for the future? Would it not be better to wind up the Education Branch and let it revert to civilian status?
Mr. Ward:
No, Sir. I know the interest which my hon. Friend takes in this matter, and I can assure him that we are doing our best to get this new scheme finalised and approved by everybody concerned. I have not forgotten my promise to him, and as soon as I am in a position to make a statement I will do so.
