asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what representations he has received from interested bodies in connection with proposals to grant Income Tax relief in respect of school fees and what reply he has made.
My right hon. Friend has not received any formal representations from interested bodies on this topic.
But did not the Chancellor, at a recent meeting in Edinburgh, indicate that he intended to meet bodies on this topic, and was that report wrong or does he so intend?
What the hon. Gentleman asked was whether my right hon. Friend had received representations from interested bodies. He did not ask for, nor could I have given him, a prophecy as to the future.
Are we to take it then, that if the right hon. Gentleman meets the governing bodies, it will be at his instance and not as a result of their request?
That is a hypothetical question.
