Part of the debate – in the House of Commons at 12:00 am on 11 April 1951.
Captain Albert Blackburn
, Birmingham, Northfield
12:00,
11 April 1951
asked the Prime Minister whether the speech of the Secretary of State for the Home Department at South Shields on 8th April on the question of the control of General MacArthur represents the policy of His Majesty's Government.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
