asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies for what reasons the legislation for the deportation of politically undesirable persons has been introduced in the Leeward Islands; and what right of appeal is to be available to deportees.

Mr. Creech Jones:

No such legislation has been introduced in the Leeward Islands.

Has such legislation actually been drafted and discussed in the Executive Council?

Mr. Creech Jones:

I am not aware that anything of that kind has developed there.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
