asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that the withdrawal of the system of licensing of newspapers by the Allies in Western Germany is leading to the disappearance of a democratic Press; and whether, in view of the nationalistic and pro-Nazi trends developing as a result, he will consider re-imposing some form of control for as long as any British Forces remain in occupation of Germany.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
