asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make available copies of the two Reports on Amerindian conditions laid before the Legislative Council of British Guiana in February together with a copy of the critical memorandum submitted by the Bishop of British Guiana to the Governor.

Copies of the two reports are on their way to this country for sale by the Crown Agents for the Colonies. I will arrange on their arrival for copies to be placed in the Library of the House. I have not seen any memorandum from the Bishop of British Guiana, but I am asking the Acting Governor whether copies are available.

While thanking my right hon. Friend for that answer, may I ask him if he will inform the House whether these reports are being acted upon, or whether action is being deferred?

Action is being taken, and both the Government of British Guiana and His Majesty's Government are studying the proposals.
