asked the Secretary of State for War when it is intended to compensate the W.Os., N.C.Os. and guardsmen of the Brigade of Guards for the tunics and blue trousers which were their own property and which were handed into store on the outbreak of war in 1939; and on what basis the compensation will be made.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
