– in the House of Commons at 12:00 am on 13 May 1947.
There are two statements today before we get on to the Business. It so happens that I have one, too. I see no reason why mine should come last, so I will read it first.
I wish to inform the House that, as your Speaker, I have received an invitation to luncheon with the Lord Mayor on Thursday next on the occasion of the visit of Their Majesties to the Mansion House. I think right hon. and hon. Members would wish me to accept this and will therefore excuse my absence at the meeting of the House on that day. [HON. MEMBERS: "Hear, hear."]
I have also received an invitation in the same way from the Lord High Commissioner of the Church of Scotland to stay at Holyrood and to be present at a session of the Church Assembly. I therefore hope the House will allow me to be absent on 22nd and 23rd May. [HoN. MEMBERS: "Hear, hear."]
