Oral Answers to Questions — Trade and Commerce – in the House of Commons at 12:00 am on 17 April 1947.
Major Donald Bruce
, Portsmouth North
12:00,
17 April 1947
asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been drawn to an announcement by the Caterers Association advising overseas visitors to stay away from Britain this year; and whether he will make an announcement as to the Government's attitude on this question.
Sir Stafford Cripps
, Bristol East
As I informed the hon. Member for Sutton Coldfield (Sir J. Mellor) on 13th March last, there has been no change in the policy of His Majesty Government in encouraging overseas visitors to come to this country during 1947. Any statements which might have the effect of deterring would-be visitors, are unjustified and are greatly to be deplored.
