Part of the debate – in the House of Commons at 12:00 am on 3 February 1947.
Mr John Haire

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he is aware of the continuing deportation of Magyars from Slovakia; and, as this is in contravention of decisions recently taken at the Paris Peace Conference concerning this minority problem, if he will take steps to expedite the direct negotiations between the two countries.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
