Part of Oral Answers to Questions — Royal Air Force – in the House of Commons at 12:00 am on 29 January 1947.
Lieut-Colonel Uvedale Corbett
, Ludlow
12:00,
29 January 1947
asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he is aware that work has been offered by his Department at £5 a week on Shobdon aerodrome to agricultural workers; and, in view of the fact that this work is not arduous, and that such offers represent unfair competition to the farmers in the district, if he will have this offer withdrawn.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
