Mr. W. Joseph Stewart:

asked the right hon. and gallant Member for Rye (Sir G. Courthope) as representing the Forestry Commissioners the number of acres that have been set apart for afforestation in the County of Durham; whether it is their intention to acquire more land in this county for that purpose; and when and in what part of the county.

The Forestry Commission own 5,675 plantable acres in the County of Durham. It is intended to acquire more land for afforestation if and when areas suitable in extent and otherwise become available in any part of the county.
