asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of bulls which have been rejected for licensing in England and Wales during the last 12 months; and how many of these rejected bulls have been granted licence on appeal.

Mr. Hudson:

During the year ended 31st March last, 8,503 bulls were rejected for licence by Livestock Officers in England and Wales. Appeals were lodged in 1,098 cases and of these 506 were successful.
