asked the Secretary of State for India approximately, the number of Indians now detained for political reasons; and how many of these are Hindu, Moslem, Christian, Sikh and Parsee?

I understand that the returns from Provincial Governments are still incomplete and, therefore, that the total figures are not yet available; but the returns in any case would not enable the persons concerned to be classified according to their religion.

When are we likely to have the figures regarding the number of detainees? Do I take it that a certain number of non-Hindus are included?

When the figures come in I shall be glad to communicate with the hon. Member.
