Mr. Rostron Duckworth:

asked the Minister of Labour what supervision is exercised over conscientious objectors to see they are actually doing the non-combatant work assigned to them?

I assume that my hon. Friend refers to conscientious objectors who are registered as such on condition that they undertake specified civilian work under civilian control. Inquiries are made periodically to see whether such persons are engaged on work which accords with the conditions of their registration, and where this is not so, appropriate steps are taken to enforce the requirement or to bring the matter again before the tribunal if there seems to be some legitimate reason for noncompliance.
