As the Reply involves a table of figures, I will, with permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Will the right hon. Gentleman say whether in view of the swollen staff at headquarters, he will take the opportunity to utilise some of them in other of his departments in order to prevent further establishments growing up to perform work for which staff could be provided from his headquarter's establishment?

I know nothing about the hon. and gallant Member's assertion that there is a very swollen staff. I do not think the staff is at all swollen, and it is busily engaged on doing work for every Government Department.

Can the right hon. Gentleman say what is the number of the staff?

As I have already said, a table of figures is involved.

Can we just have the total number?

On a point of Order. Could we not have that figure? The Minister seemed to be prepared to give it.
