asked the Minister of Health whether he will consider amending the Rent Restrictions Act, 1939, to permit of a member of His Majesty's Forces, who is demobilised during the war, regaining possession of his house in cases where he has let it?

It would not appear that any amendment of the Rent Restrictions Acts is required, in view of the provisions of Section 3 of the Rent and Mortgage Interest Restrictions (Amendment) Act, 1933, and of Section 3 of the Rent and Mortgage Interest Restrictions Act, 1939, under which an owner can obtain from the Court an order for possession of his house for occupation as a residence for himself unless the Court is satisfied that greater hardship would be caused by granting the order than by refusing to grant it.

Is my right hon. Friend aware that a friend of mine who was mobilised and discharged from the Army was unable to regain possession of his house? If I send him particulars of this case, will he look into it?

I should be glad to have the case and look into it, but the Act as I have stated it seems to cover it.
