asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many boys between the ages of 16 and 18, employed in the Clyde shipyards, were recently registered as belonging to a youth organisation or an evening class; how many of these invited to an interview attended; and what provision for recreation or evening classes exist?

I am informed by the education authorities concerned that 1,996 boys employed in Clyde shipyards were registered as belonging to youth organisations or attending evening classes: 929 boys who were invited for interview attended. Adequate provision is made for evening classes in the areas where the vast majority of these boys reside, and facilities for recreation are steadily being improved.
