asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is able to make a statement to the House covering the policy of the Government with reference to the increased price of coal, namely, the amount of the proposed increase; what costs it is designed to cover; whether this will be followed by an authorised increase in the price of gas and electricity; and whether the intention of the Government is that such increases must add to the cost-of-living figures, or whether other measures are contemplated to offset such an increase?

Major Lloyd George:

On the first and second parts of the Question I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which was given to the hon. Member for Moseley (Sir P. Hannon) on Thursday last by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and on the last part of his Question I would ask him to await the replies which will be given by the Chancellor of the Exchequer to other Questions on the subject in to-day's Order Paper.
