asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Buildings whether the firm which was recently refused an opportunity to tender for the construction of a depot in the Midlands, particulars whereof have been supplied, was denied this opportunity on the ground of inexperience in civil engineering work; and whether, before this decision was reached, any steps were taken to inquire into the competence of its present personnel?

Has not the firm to which I refer the services of an experienced civil engineer, who was sent to them by the Ministry of Supply as one of their best officers for this particular work, and is he not now engaged whole-time by the firm which the Ministry of Works say has not a competent civil engineer?

My Ministry are aware that a competent civil engineer has recently joined the firm.

Had not he joined prior to the time the Ministry were refusing permission to the firm to tender on the ground that there was not a civil engineer on the premises?
