asked the Minister of Labour whether he proposes to direct all surplus part-time Civil Defence workers into the Home Guard; whether he can state the approximate numbers affected and when his instructions become effective?

Part-time Civil Defence workers agreed by the Civil Defence authorities to be surplus to requirements will be considered along with others for direction to enrol in the Home Guard in those areas where compulsory enrolment is necessary. I have issued instructions regarding the procedure to my local officers. I cannot give an estimate of the numbers likely to be affected.
