asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, in view of the numerous cases in which the War Damage Commission have failed to reply to correspondence from persons whose property has been damaged or destroyed by enemy action, he will take prompt steps to ensure that answers are sent by the Commission without delay in all such cases?

I am informed that the aim of the Commission is to limit correspondence with claimants as far as possible to what is necessary in order to make progress with the payment of claims. Where there is likely to be prolonged delay, an acknowledgment is now sent.
