Mr. Creech Jones:

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies what steps are being taken in political and constitutional reform in the case of Trinidad; whether the Franchise Committee has yet reported; and whether elections to the Legislative Council have been further postponed?

With regard to the first two parts of the Question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to the hon. Member for Dewsbury (Mr. Riley) on 25th February. As regards the third part, my Noble Friend has received no information regarding a postponement of elections to the Legislative Council.

Mr. Creech Jones:

While I am aware of the reply given on 21st February, can the hon. Gentleman say whether representations have been made to British Guiana and Trinidad urging that the work of these franchise committees should be expedited?

Mr. Creech Jones:

I know it is.
