The Waste Food Board was set up in May, 1941, and in that month local authorities' collections of kitchen waste totalled 12,838 tons, which compared with 11,279 tons in March, 1941, and 11,370 tons in April, 1941. Since May, the tonnage of collections has steadily increased and in December, 1941, reached a new peak figure of 22,000 tons.
