Mr. Edmund:

Harvey asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been called to a demand in Nigeria for the withdrawal of the prohibition of the purchase for export and removal of palm kernels; and whether the scheme for Governmental purchase of palm kernels, which has been agreed to for the French Cameroons, can be applied also to Nigeria?

Mr. Whiteley:

The prohibition of the purchase for export of palm kernels in certain areas of Nigeria has been suspended since 6th May, and for the present the whole exportable supply is being bought on behalf of the Ministry of Food.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
