asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, whether the settlement with Iran involves a charge upon the British taxpayer for oil, transport or subvention; whether any estimate has been formed of the amount of this charge; and whether the Iranian Government is making any contribution to Great Britain for the cost of the protection provided by the army of occupation which must otherwise fall upon British or Indian funds?
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
