asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he realises the sense of injustice felt by members of the Home Guard that they have to use civilian clothing coupons for their sports outfit; and will he put them on the same footing as the other Service units in this respect?

Members of the Home Guard receive 66 clothing coupons for the current rationing year, and it is reasonable that this issue should cover their needs for sports outfits in the same way as it does for other members of the community. The special arrangements applicable at present to members of other branches of His Majesty's Forces are necessary because they have no clothing coupons.

Miss Cazalet:

asked the President of the Board of Trade why a Red Cross nurse can obtain uniform collars free of coupons, while a State-registered nurse is obliged to surrender one coupon for each collar; and whether he will take steps to remove this anomaly?

Following discussions with the principal nursing organisations, nurses will shortly be given special coupon facilities enabling them to obtain their essential requirements of uniform. These facilities will cover State-registered nurses as well as the Red Cross.

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that there is considerable feeling among mothers that the present clothing rationing scheme does not provide sufficient clothing for young children; and whether he can reconsider the present ration?

The situation is being watched, but there is no evidence that the present ration is inadequate for essential requirements, provided that due economy is exercised.

asked the President of the Board of Trade when the extra clothes coupons for children will be available to the public; and how they will be obtained?

The issue of these extra coupons for older children will begin early in November, when full instructions for obtaining them will be published.
