asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury to what extent the recommendations of the Kennet Committee have been carried out in the release of eligible men and women in the Departments for some form of war service?

My hon. Friend will recall that the Interim Report of the Kennet Committee recommended that the process of putting the new proposals into effect should be spread over a period of three months. It is, therefore, premature for me to make any statement.

Does my right hon. and gallant Friend not realise the urgency of this matter in view of the need for men and women in the Services?

Yes, the matter is being attended to on the lines recommended by the Committee.
