Oral Answers to Questions — British Army. – in the House of Commons at on 10 June 1941.
asked the Secretary of State for War who are his present advisers on catering; and from what firms they have been drawn?
As the House is aware, my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Harrow (Sir I. Salmon) who is also chairman and managing-director of Messrs. J. Lyons and Company, Limited, acts as Honorary Catering Adviser to the Army in association with the Quartermaster-General's Department. In addition, there is a catering adviser in each command, and nearly 150 advisers are attached to various units and formations.
Is my right hon. and gallant Friend satisfied that his advisers in the War Office arc. making the best use of the kitchen staffs and materials made available by the closing down of hotels and boarding-houses?
Yes, Sir. One is, of course, never satisfied, but from what I have seen of this matter I think the best use is being made of the experts and material which are available.
