Oral Answers to Questions — Palestine. – in the House of Commons at on 9 April 1941.
Colonel Josiah Wedgwood
, Newcastle-under-Lyme
asked the Undersecretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the fact that an official from India is now framing an Income Tax ordinance for Palestine, it is intended to exempt from this tax, as in India, owners of land, although by now the land of Palestine must be all zoned and valued?
Mr George Hall
, Merthyr Tydfil Aberdare
The question of introducing Income Tax legislation in Palestine is under examination by the Palestine Government with the assistance of an expert adviser, and I am not at present in a position to make any statement on the matter.
Colonel Josiah Wedgwood
, Newcastle-under-Lyme
Will the hon. Gentleman bear this point in mind when these considerations are being taken into account, so that the landlords should not escape, as they do in India?
Mr George Hall
, Merthyr Tydfil Aberdare
We must await the report.
