(1) Where the managers of a public elementary school not provided by a local education authority have failed, for a period of fourteen days after any first day of July prescribed by subsections (1) and (2) of section fifteen of this Act, to pay such contribution as is required in respect of the school under the preceding provisions of this part of this Act, the local education authority for elementary education in the area in which the school is situated may, within twenty-eight days after receiving from the Board of Education a copy of the notification prescribed by subsection (3) of this section, elect to pay the said contribution on behalf of the managers and in the event of their so doing the Commission shall pay to the authority all such sums as would otherwise have been payable to the managers under the preceding provisions of this Part of this Act in respect of war damage to the school.

(2) All sums paid to a local education authority for elementary education in accordance with the provisions of subsection (1) of this section, other than such sums as are paid by way of interest in accordance with the provisions of subsection (3) of section nine of this Act, shall be expended by the authority in making good war damage to or replacing the school to which such first-mentioned sums relate, and the school or the building by which it is so replaced shall become, as from the date upon which the necessary works were commenced, a school provided by the authority within the meaning of the Education Act, 1921.
  3. (3) For the purposes of this section it shall be the duty of the Commissioners of Inland Revenue or of any person authorised by them to collect contributions under this Part of this Act, as the case may be, to send to the Board of Education an immediate notification of any case in which the managers of a public elementary school not provided by a local education authority have failed, for the period of fourteen days prescribed by subsection (1) of this section, to pay any contribution payable by them under the preceding provisions of Part I of this Act, and the Board shall forthwith send a copy of such notification to the local education authority for elementary education in the area in which the school is situated.—[Sir J.
