asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the continued high rate of deaths on the roads in spite of the reduced number of vehicles; and what further action he proposes taking in the matter?
Under existing conditions a substantial reduction in the number of road accidents can only be secured by the exercise of greater care by all road users. A further road safety publicity campaign will be undertaken in the autumn.
Does not my right hon. Friend agree that the figures prove that speed alone is not the main factor causing road accidents?
