Part of Oral Answers to Questions — Post Office. – in the House of Commons at on 21 February 1940.
Mr Reginald Fletcher
, Nuneaton
asked the Prime Minister why it was decided to censor an article written by the late Secretary of State for War upon the issue of giving help to Finland; and whether the decision to censor was taken upon matters of fact or expressions of opinion contained in the article?
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
