I understand that this woman, who keeps a boarding house, was fined for failing to comply with the requirement in the Aliens Order that hotel keepers and boarding-house keepers shall keep a register of aliens staying on the premises. The Germans in question were properly registered with the police, and their cases had been examined by one of the tribunals which I appointed for the purpose. As a result of that examination they were all recognised as genuine refugees. Four were exempted, both from internment and from the special restrictions applicable to enemy aliens, and the fifth was exempted from internment, but not from the special restrictions.
