Miss Ward:
asked the Secretary of State for War how many applicants for commissions in the Northern Command are serving as officers who have not yet been gazetted; and by what date will all outstanding applications be dealt with?
Mr Leslie Hore-Belisha
, Plymouth, Devonport
As I informed the hon. Lady on Tuesday, 14th November, it would need considerable research to ascertain at any given time the number of cases in which candidates have joined for duty and have not yet been gazetted.
Mr Leslie Hore-Belisha
, Plymouth, Devonport
The hon. Lady is dealing with dynamics and not with statics. The position is changing daily.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
