A paragraph giving the promised assurance has been included in the pamphlet which is being issued to all militiamen.

Can the hon. Gentleman say whether that covers the whole period of four years during which they are liable to be called up for service?

I understand that this matter was dealt with in a statement by my right hon. Friend in the House on 12th May.

May I ask the specific question: Does it cover only the six months for which they are now being called up, or does it cover the whole period during which they may be called upon to serve? This is very important.

I think it covers the initial period.

Was not a pledge given that the whole period should be covered?

Will they be strong enough to perform these duties if they are fed on margarine?

This suggestion is being borne in mind, but I am not sure that it will be practicable.
